The Rhodes University Private Bill was passed by Parliament in April 1949, which marks the date of independent accreditation of Rhodes as a University. Before that date Rhodes operated as a constituent college of the University of South Africa. All degree certificates issued during the period 1904-1950 were issued by the University of the Cape of Good Hope/University of South Africa. Unisa owes the copyright of all Rhodes theses up to 1950. Rhodes University Library received permission from Unisa's Vice Principal: Research and Innovation, to have access to these theses for the purpose of digitisation and it can be kept in the Rhodes University Institutional Repository. |
